The story centers on 17-year-old Ren McCormack, who is forced to leave the big-city excitement of Chicago when his parents separate. His mother, Ethel moves them to the tiny, conservative Midwestern town of Bomont, where Reverend Shaw Moore, makes the rules. Ren soon discovers – the hard way – that those rules include a ban on dancing. Soon, with his new friend Willard, and Reverend Moore’s rebellious daughter Ariel by his side, and the rest of the senior class behind him, Ren takes a stand.
Songs including 80s hits such as, "The Girl Gets Around," "Almost Paradise," and "Holding Out For a Hero," underscore the young people’s struggle to overcome the town’s painful past and win back the right to "cut loose."
